Three men arrested, charged with multiple drug crimes

The Lackawanna County police recently arrested three men returning to Pennsylvania from New Jersey and seized a significant amount of illegal drugs. The arrests were the culmination of an investigation into possible drug crimes committed by one of the three men and they resulted in criminal charges being lodged against each of the three.

Police had received a tip that the leader of the group was selling heroin from a motel room in South Abington Township. The police then became aware that the man was planning to make a trip to New Jersey to replenish his inventory. The police identified the man's car earlier in the day. When the car appeared heading into Pennsylvania on Interstate 380 near the Lackawanna/Wayne county border late at night, the police pulled over the car and conducted a pat-down search of the driver. The search revealed drugs, which the driver admitted were his. A further search of the vehicle found 494 bags of heroin, nine vials of crack, six oxycodone pills and over 12 grams of marijuana.

The police arrested all three men, even though the driver said that neither of his companions was aware that the purpose of the trip was to purchase drugs for resale. The driver was charged with four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts each of possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute it, as well as one count of a possession of a small amount of marijuana. The two companions were charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and one was also charged with marijuana possession.

These men face serious drug charges. If convicted, they face fines, imprisonment or both. Anyone facing such charges should retain a criminal defense attorney experienced in handling such cases. The attorney will evaluate the case, look for available defenses (the searches in this case potentially could provide one such defense) and ensure that the rights of the accused are vigorously defended.
