Accused sex offender faces numerous charges of sexual assault

A Hanover Township resident who reportedly has a history of domestic abuse was recently arrested and charged with numerous crimes in connection with his alleged abuse of a 16-year-old girl over the last six years. The alleged sexual assault was reported to police by the girl’s mother after the girl reportedly told her how the man had repeatedly assaulted her from age 10 to the present.

The mother took her daughter to the Hanover Township Police Department on May 3, 2016. According to the police report, the mother told police about the incidents of alleged abuse. After receiving permission from the Lackawanna County Prosecutor’s office, the police had the young woman interviewed by the Lackawanna Children’s Advocacy Center later that evening. The girl described the alleged abusive incidents in explicit detail. The man was arrested and charged on May 9, 2016.

A search of court records revealed that the accused had reportedly been convicted of violating a protection-from-abuse order on a previous occasion and had been briefly incarcerated. He now faces charges of statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.

The charges in this case are extremely serious. If convicted, the defendant may face a lengthy prison term. Anyone facing similar charges may wish to evaluate the facts of the case, consider defense tactics and think about the chances of obtaining a favorable plea agreement or an outright acquittal. Planning a criminal defense strategy for sex crimes charges can be extremely difficult.
