Two local men charged with sex crime involving minor

On Behalf of | Jul 7, 2016 | Sex Crimes

Digital communication can be a great convenience, but sometimes, it can have unpleasant results. A lengthy conversation via e-mail has led to the arrest of a Lackawanna County man and a Monroe County man; they are both facing charges of various sex crimes involving minors.

The arrest occurred after an undercover agent for the state Attorney General’s office saw an ad looking for “a younger guy to mess around with.” The officer, using an assumed name, responded, stating that he was a 13-year-old boy. Over the course of four weeks, the two allegedly exchanged messages about meeting to have sex. Finally, the man agreed to meet at a place named by the agent. He was arrested upon his arrival, and police examined his cell phone. The police claim that the phone contained a number of child pornography images and messages he had exchanged with another man. Police then obtained a search warrant for the home occupied by the other man; the warrant was executed and the man arrested a few hours later.

According to the statement given by the second man after his arrest, the criminal conduct began several years ago. The man allegedly admitted to having sex with the 2-year-old son of the woman with whom he had been living. He also admitted to being “sexually interested in young boys for the last 10 years or so.”

The Lackawanna County man was charged with criminally using a communication facility (his cellphone), involuntary deviate sexual intercourse on a person under age 16 and statutory sexual assault. The other man was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of criminally using a communications facility.

Both men are in Lackawanna County Prison. Both men face serious criminal charges. Anyone facing similar charges may wish to consult an experienced criminal defense attorney for advice on defending against the charges, minimizing publicity and an estimate of the likelihood of negotiating a favorable plea agreement or obtaining an outright acquittal.
