Teen faces criminal charges after incident at school

Some Pennsylvania residents might believe that a person charged with a crime will fit into one of several stereotypes. Whether the stereotypes are based on demographics, characteristics or other traits, there is almost always an exception to each stereotype that forces people to recognize that anyone from any walk of life can find herself subject to criminal charges.

A recent Pennsylvania news story proves just this point. A 17-year-old female high school student is currently facing a slew of criminal charges ranging from aggravated assault to criminal mischief. The girl allegedly attacked her school principal with a variety of unconventional weapons such as a rolling pin, broken glass and ceramic bowls before being arrested.

While underage females are not usually the first group of people that are considered when talk of criminal activity begins, this young woman's arrest shows that anyone can be held accountable to the law if that person's actions warrant police involvement.

As a result of her arrest, this girl may suffer many long-term consequences even if she is not convicted. Colleges, future employers and others may view her arrest as a sign of delinquencies that she simply does not possess. If she is convicted she may lose certain rights and freedoms enjoyed by others living in her community, find herself facing hefty fines or even subject to incarceration.

All people should be held equal under the law and the arrest of this juvenile student demonstrates that Pennsylvania residents need to be ready to defend their actions. With the help of a criminal defense attorney, this young person may mitigate some of the harm she is likely to experience as a result of suffering a criminal arrest.
